Item Bleeding at the Typewriter: The Potential Link between Creativity and Mental Health in WritersBrockway, Paige; Wynn Perdue, SherryRegard of the writer as stereotypically solitary, manic, driven by obsessions, or otherwise mentally disturbed is prevalent throughout history and popular culture. This study examines the professed truth behind this stereotype and interrogates the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and related mood disorders in self-proclaimed professional and/or recreational writers. Survey data was collected from 73 self-identified writers regarding their mental health, writing habits, creativity and productivity levels to identify how variations in mood affects a writer’s motivation and perceived ability to write. The goal of this paper is to provide greater insight into the minds of individual writers and to contribute a greater understanding of the link between creative-mindedness and psychological affliction.Item The Oakland Post 2016-06-01(Oakland Sail, Inc., 2016-06-01) Oakland Sail, Inc.Exploring the Real World: Music; Theatre and Dance students perform "Adventures of Pinocchio" on campus during the summer ; Wage Change: Student-employee minimum wages raise effective Aug. 29 ; Rec Well: Department of Campus Recreation changes name for healthier campus ; Summer Fun: Previews of festive events around Metro Detroit ; Looking back: Digging through the Oakland Post archives ; Introducing OUWB's graduates ; OUWB graduating class statistics ; Student-employee minimum wage increases ; President's Report ; New School of Nursing dean announced ; School of Health Sciences dean candidates breakdown ; National award to Writing and Rhetoric: Department recognized at Conference on College Composition and Communication in Houston ; Well-being emphasized with Campus Rec department name change ; Q&A with Jean Ann Miller: Walks with Campus Leaders ; Departments to face off in employee kickball tournament ; Memorial 5K run-walk ; Grizz: the man behind the mascot: Chatting with Oakland's mascot about games; the costume and secret identities ; June in Metro Detroit: June and July Local Summer Concert Preview ; Wooden tale brought to life: Oakland students perform "The Adventures of Pinocchio" for university community; local schools ; Gold Vibrations in NYC ; Oakland alumna receives third Tony nomination ; 2016 Black and Gold Awards ; Soccer alum helps make Super Run super ; Just Out of Reach: Oakland baseball slips 10-9 to UIC in Horizon League Championship ; Oakland softball swept by UIC in final home series; season over ; Track third at Horizon Leagues ; some to NCAA ; Women's golf at NCAA regionals for first time ; Kay Felder improves stock at NBA Combine ; Oakland alum Stuard bags first PGA TOUR win ; Basketball Review: Arrivals and departures: With Felder and Washington gone; who fills the gaps? ; Northern Guard invasion: Detroit City and Michigan Bucks face off in U.S. Open Cup first-round soccer matchItem The Oakland Post 2016-07-20(Oakland Sail, Inc., 2016-07-20) Oakland Sail, Inc.Sound of Oakland: Internationally recognized carillonneurs perform free concerts from the Elliot Tower ; Master Plan.
