dc.description.abstractExcerpt from essay by Dick Goody: Contemporary sculpture has the immediate, visceral quality to assert itself in ways that mediated art forms, like video or painting, cannot because the sculptural object’s signification is metonymic - in other words, it holds the equivalency of the image or entity depicted, embodied in the presence of the materials of its fabrication.
