Unfortunately, the financial panic of 1837-1841 and the competition of the railway led to the demise of the project, with only the portion from Mount Clemens to Rochester being completed. This two dollar bearer note was issued by the Clinton Canal Bank in 1837, and reads "The | Clinton | Canal Bank | at Pontiac | Will Pay TWO DOLLARS on demand | to [illegible] or Bearer. Michigan Safety Fund | No. 192 | Pontiac | Dec. 9 1837 | Real estate pledged and private property holden."engUsers assume all responsibility for questions of copyright, invasion of privacy, and rights of publicity that may arise in using reproductions from the library's collections.Clinton Canal Bank Two Dollar NoteTextClinton_Canal_Bank_Two
