Abstract

The civil war in Sudan can be dated back to 1956, when Sudan got its independence from the United Kingdom and Egypt. The struggle between the local Muslim peoples against pro-government militias known as the Janjaweed has become a country-wide battle that incorporates several Muslim groups throughout Sudan.
