The Meadow Brook Music Festival started at Oakland University on July 23, 1964. In the Howard C. Baldwin Memorial Pavilion, nestled in a ravine on the Meadow Brook Estate, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra offered symphonic concerts. Programming evolved over the years to include contemporary music and popular artists.
