Old Mail Racket Revived ‘ Postal authorities in Washington are taking steps to curb what they call a recently revived chain letter racket. Besides pointing out that these - schemes violate lottery and fraud statutes, department officials warn the public that the sole ob- ject is to swindle the gullible. Of one plan currently the most pop- ular, the department said: “These endless chain letters solicit the addressee to invest $2 in the hope of getting a return of $6,250. Each person solicited is asked to send the $2 to the No. 1 name in the list of five and then move the other names up and put his name in the fifth position and send copies of the circular to five other people.” If you get any such letter, turn it over to postal officials and don’t be afraid to break the chain. “ Contributing to such-a—scheme “paths, but continuation slayerofone; &. @ se : It is Ziem’s belief that the.
