sus Bureau said today that the 
number of horses and mules on 
U, S. farms was down_ to four 
million, 100 thousand in 14. 
There were four million 700 thouw- 
sand tractors then. 
The peak of 25 million, 200 
thousand horses and mules was 
reached in 1920. The bureau 
said in its final report of the 
1964 agricultuure census that by 
3954 tractors on farms had in- 
cluding about 347 thousand gar-

try’s horses and mules were on 
farms in the 16 southern states,

farms reported a total of two mil-
