think that the chair was ‘an overstuffed lounge chair.
But it wasn't; it was a straight chair. He called it a
“@isciplinary chair,” for my friend didn't go into
"that room to sleep. He went there to be alive, hap-
- pily and quietly alive.
How did he go about it? He would enter that room at the end of
a busy day. That one book-in it was the Bibie, which rested on the
table.’ He would pull up his straight chair, open the Book, and pro-
ceed to saturate his mind with its great words of quietness and peace.
The one picture he had placed on the wall was of the Matterhorn,

is a Hi Fi enthusiast and has built a room in his basement to hold
all his equipment. Mrs.-Carlson says he's been working on the
room off and on for years. The paneling is knotty pine, the floor
