Recipients of McNamara's first
campaign flourish were some 100
members and friends of the
Bloomfield Democratic Club,
which received its charter into
what its chairman nervously
termed _— the ‘“Bloomacratic”
party.
RECEIVES CHARTER
The charter, making the club a
full-fledged member of the. real
Democratic Party, was presented
to Chairman Mrs. William A.
Clemmons of Bloomfield Town-

Oakland County Democratic Com-

McNamara praised the club
for being able to penetrate the
“hard-core” ‘Republican terri-
tory of Bloomfield Hitis and
Bloomfield Township.
The club, formed last Decem-
ber, claims 350 members, 75 of
whom are dues paying, Mrs. Clem-

Utica’ 8 Novak Faces 7 Charges.
Board of 3 Reviews Case Against UTICA — Was suspended Utica
Street Commissioner Sreten Novak,
4I, “‘over-efficient or inefficient” in
his’ job? The question is being weighed
by Utica’s three-man Civil Service
Commission which reviewed the
case at a hearing Wednesday
night.
Mayer Edward R. Church list-
ed seven charges in his letter of
complaint against Nevak, who
was suspended from the
a-year job last month.
The street commissioner
charged with taking several rail-
road ties without the knowledge of
the railroad or the city and trans-
porting them to the city barp.
Novak testified that he had the
permission of the railroad gang
foreman to take the used ties. He is allegedly took several from be-
hing. the ball park in Rochester
and also from the pumping station
at 19% Mile and Mound roads in
Sterling Township, according to
Church’s letter.
Novak said he had taken the
ties to construct bins to hold
chemicals, sand and other mate-
rials used in street work for the
city.
Another charge was that he
tore down and removed a furnace
from the city barn and trans-
ported it. to his mother’s place
of business on Auburn road in
Brooklands-with city equipment.
His answer was that ‘the furnace
“was inadequate and that its re-
moval had been approved, but no
[mention had been made of its dis-
posal.

CANNOT AGREE
The four city officials at the
hearing could not agree as to
whether Novak was authorized to
make certain purchases. A num-
ber of them occurred when Street
Committee Chairman Frank Chap-

Other charges were that No-

"NEW YORK (AP)—The grey-littsed wife of Russian Pre-
mier Khrushchev admitted Thursday {ise.after only three
days of their American visit the pace of receptions. and enter- J
tainment had her in a whirl. “ey |
“How do you say I am dizzy?” she asked her interpreter...
in halting English
Shifting to Russian, she told a group of women iv
ers in a 90 second interview, “Please make it very shprt. 1
am very tired. My head js spinning.”
* * *
Mrs. Khrushchev was guest at a luncheon given at the
Waldorf-Astoria by Mrs. Robert F. Wagner, wife of New
York's mayor
Photographers stood on chairs amid floodlights and
clamor in a small room adjoining the Louls XVI sulte where
the luncheon was held. The session got out of hand as re-
porters shouting questions surrounded Mrs Khrushchev and_@
her two step-daughters, Rada and Julla. Radio interviewers
pressed microphones in front of them, trying to get com-
men! : aaa
; . * x wk
Tall, blonde, Mrs. Nelson-Roekefeller, wife of New York's |
governor, tried to steer titem through the crush, and at one |
point told Rada to say “You don't understand,” |
Through it all, Mrs. Khrushchev, wearing a black sult
with whte blouse, smiled and seemed unruffled.
* * *
She was given a pin, symbolic of the key to Lhe city, by
Mrs. Wagner, and posed with her and Mrs Rockefeller.
* * *
In the brief interview after the picture-taking, she ex-
pressed her thanks for “the cordial greeting” accorded her,
and explained she couldn't give her impressions of New York
beceuse “we hardly saw it.”

School will not be paid today. The
school district is unable to meet
the $23,00) payroll.
Harold E. Bledsoe of Detroit, at-

it would be about a week before
money can be raised to pay the
school's employes.
In the meantime, Bledsoe said,
the State Municipal Finance
Commission had authorized the
district to issue $25,000 worth of
tax anticipation notes to meet
present obligations.
This money wil] be used to meet)b
the payrol] when it becomes avail-
able in about a week. ‘After that,
there won't be any problem,” said
Bledsoe, “‘because regular state aid
will then be available.”

Key stocks were off from frac-

Paris Together Have Become Part of
Way of Life. for French
Capital City
WASHINGTON— The city of
Paris has more than 30 bridges to
link its famous divisions — the
Right Bank and the Left-Bank.
Busy people may regard the
bridges merely as a way to get
across the Seine River, But to the
|down-and-out, they give shelter.
To painters, they offer beauty. To
All that changed after the ‘Pont
Neuf(New Bridge) was erected
at the end of the 16th century.
The bridge astonished Parisians
by its size — it is large enough
for modern traffic — and its side-
walks. At that time, Paris streets
had none.

Uncluttered by houses, the spac-

and market. Peddlers, dancers,
The Pont de |’Alma, built in
the 1850's, is decorated with stat-
‘jues of four French soldiers, in-
cluding a Zouave. Ordinarily, the
Zouave is above the waterline,
but in river-rising periods the wa-
ter may lap his knees, waist, neck,
or head. Parisians describe the
Seine’s lével by reference to the
Zouave's body. ‘She'd Prefer. to Zoom

By EARL WILSON
NEW YORK — Constance Towers, beautiful young
Hollywood actress (and bride) is unhappy—because friends,
agents and: advisers tell her, “If you could play a ‘bad
: woman’ role, or get in some scandal, your
career would ZOOM!”
“Why shouldn't it zoom instead from
playing a good woman?” demands Con-
nie, who just finished “Captain Buffalo”
for John Ford.
Nor will the Lana-Turner-Liz Taylor
box office appeal induce her to have any
scandal involving her bridegroom, Eu-
gene McGrath, ex-husband of Terry
Moore.
Fact is, she's trying te make the
career zoom from a happy marriage.
