Pontiac Northern High School. Sponsored by the Allca Bridal Salon In tribute to Pontiac’s Centennial, the show featured autl^ntlc gowns dating !frpm the Civil War, the early 1900’s, through the roaring 20’s to the orbital 60’s. ★ ★ ★ Clad in a faille gown ornately decorated with black jet beads, Mrs. William McRath was narrator for the first half of the show, Produced by Harvey Place, the production featured many changes of scene and background music, including tunes from the Broadway production ’’Camelot” which is exerting strong influence on the American fashion scene. Among vintage gowns to sippear in mock-daguerretype style in an ornate picture frame was a cream-colored silk faille gown modeled by Lynn Anderson. STYLISH WAIST Entirely handmade and dating from i'861, the gown featured a bustle back advantageously contrasted to the stylish tiny waist of the period. fLynn’s waist measures 19 Inches—tiny in our vitamin stuffed young people but above average in the Scarlett O’Hara era.) A circular floor train and bodice trimmed in Battenburg lace completed the gown. ★ ★ ★ Another eye-catcher was Yvonne Moder’s three-piece ensemble of China silk. Lined in green taffeta, the gown was typical of those seen in weddings at the turn of the century. The skirt had a draped front drawn to reveal knife-edge pleating of silk and lace. The entire underside of the train was of pleated lace. ’The blouse had three-quarter length sleeves and the cape was of exquisitely faggoted silk with pale green velvet ribbons. HILARIOUS PARODY A gown of the early 20's worn by Lois Simpson was chapel length with v-neck and gathered lace trim. Its scalloped semi-torso waist was the forerunner of many lines currently seen in fashion. Narrating the second half of the show which featured present-day styles modeled by centennial queen contestants was Mrs. Prank Anderson. An intermission act by Margaret Beatty was a hilarious parody, an old-fashioned strip tease.
