in Contract Talk | § Turns Down Reuther
Invitation to Sit In
on Negotiations
DETROIT (# — Henry Ford II today declined Wal- _ ter Reuther’'s invitation to
join in the contract talks
between the Ford Motor Co.
‘and Reuther’s CIO United
Auto Workers.
At the same time Ford,
company president, said it
would be. an “unforgiveable
error” if the 140,000 Ford)
employes were not given an.
opportunity to learn. all de-
tails of what he called the).
“prosperity partnership
package” offer.
The offer included an oppor-
tunity for Ford workers to buy
company stock at half price, inter-
est-free loans during layoff periods,
some wage boosts and other bene-
fits. The UAW called the offer
“phony” and rejected it shortly
after it was placed on the bargain-
ing table Thursday.
Ford sald he felt hig attend-
ance at a meeting of the union's
national Ford conference this
afterneon would serve “ne use-
ful purpose.
Reuther, who also heads the
CIO, extended the invitation in a)
telegram jast night after‘ a UAW
International Executive Board
meeting.
He asked Ford to attend a meet-
ing of the union's national Ford
Council so that “there can be no
question as to whether the Ford
workers will accept or reject the
Ford proposals and whether they
will strike in support of their own
demands."

TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING! A FORTUNE TO PRODUCE!
and COLOR Spectacle!
But Marilyn seems about to make a new and better deal|
with 20th Century-Fox . .. thanks to the fortitude she got
from the Greenes.
Milton's always been an individualist. At Textile High
School on 14th St., he flunked advertising—and alse pho-
tography—because he rebelled against some of the rules.
“One day in a photography class, I put @ plate on a radiator
to dry.

“Tt reticulated”—¢ame out with a lot of lines across it—
“and I thought it was a wonderful design. The teachers only
considered that I'd put a plate on a radiator when I shouldn't
have.” z

He photographed a statue of the nude Venus.
“You can’t display that picture . . . it’s indecent,” one
teacher said. .
“That's ridiculous,” protested young Milton.
He went away from there—te Abraham Lincoin High
School, then, won a scholarship to Pratt Institute—and
eventually became head of his own small advertising agency
as well as a $50,000-a-year photographer for Look with a
personal contract with Mrs. Fleur Cowles,
Through MM Productions, Marilyn hopes to feather her
nest for her later years. ~
“A lot of actresses are forced to do pictures they shouldn't
because they need money,” Greene says. “She’s established a
corporation which ene day could be worth a lot of money. She
may have hit oil or uranium in 10 years, and she should own
valuable real estate and be producing pictures and perhaps
working with other actors and actresses.”
x « * *
What's a meeting of Marilyn Monroe Productions like?
It’s very simple. Sometimes it's held at Marilyn's suite
at the Waldorf Towers, sometimes at Agent Jay Kantor’s
office at Music Corp. of America, sometimes at Greene’s
studio at 480 Lexington Ave. -
: One meeting—held at Marilyn’s hotel—ran: very long, at
| .\my Green’s insistence. — -

| It was on Milton’s birthday and he was being “surprised”

| Marilyn and Jay Kantor were under orders to keep Milton

| to-discuss. ea :
“I’ve got to go,” Greene would say, and Kanter would
cough and say, “There’s one more thing I wanted to bring
} . up... now what was it?” |
7 The surprise was a success and Marilyn was overjoyed.
| She said it was the Se REREAD Be Se PES

: Her Veep has thriftily allowed her to use his studio for
| her offices, Under the name of Milton H. Greene, Photographer,
Bon the door, was added Marilyn Monroe Productions .
“Once again,” commented Marilyn, “I didn’t get top billing.” |
