The discovery of the body brought an end to a search by police, firemen and civilians after the child was reported missing from his home early last night. River-dragging operations were started late this morning when Danny’s maroon baseball cap was: found on the bank of the creek, A boat crew that included patrol- man John McKeever of Allen Park recovered Danny's body in five feet of water. Police said there was no indica- tion of foul play and they assumed that Danny may have slipped into the deep water while walking along the bank. Danny was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Cassette. His father is a bakery worker. Police said the boy was last seen by a playmate at about 4:30 p.m. walking away from his home toward the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks. His mother, Mrs, Lee Cassette, said Dan, who attends the Christ and Good Shepherd School, came home at.3 p.m. and left to play 18 minw later. She had nof seen him since. The boy's parents reported him missing to Lincoln Park police at 6:45 p.m. when he failed to come home to dinner A force of 50 policemen was augmented by 250 civilians as the search progressed into the night. This may notprove to be fatal, but it certainly won't enhance his position in his party. x * x Mrs. Roosevelt has been very voluble in her discussions of Demo- cratic party politics. Surely this is her right. It’s her privilege just .. as much as it was her privilege to , tell Americans how to raise chil- dren when her own were traipsing through the divorce courts. x * * Perhaps it would be even more fitting for Mrs. Rooseve.t to expati- | ate upon her late husband's defec- tions at Yalta when he was hood- winked and outthought. Also, this country might like to listen to her discussion of FRANKLIN’s recognition of Red Ruisia when he was bowing and scraping before foreign powers. Someone should refresh Mrs. Roosevelt’s mind on the ancient quip about glass houses and the serious ‘business of throwing stones. The self-appointed role of elderly stateswoman may have worn thin. Perhaps she should pull the blanket around her shoulders and sit comfortably on the side lines while more active Demo- crats run with the ball. Hoover for Moratorium on Wage Price Increases One of our elder statesmen, former President Hoover, comes up with one of the most challenging suggestions yet noted for checking the depres- sion. x «x * He favors a huge slash in all gov- ernment spending that isn’t for de- fense. These sentiments will receive a rousing “aye” vote clear across the country. By doing this, he believes we would reduce costs sufficiently to justify a tax reduction and yet pre- serve a balanced budget. % €...°% Further, he wants both labor and capital to take a realistic hand in the problem by declaring a moratorium on wage and price in- creases. ) Well, what's wrong with that? Why shouldn't both help? x * * If all prices were maintained at the current levels and if all wages were kept where they are, the busi- ness of coming out of this setback would be boosted appreciably. Will they do this? x * * If they won't which one will prove to be too selfish? Will labor say: “you hold the line and we'll ad- vance.” ae or iis PO ge On eR 1 aa I itn gtr wa : Or will the manufacturers of the © _ mation say: “hold wages still and _ we'll advance prices.” * x * If both of them listen to ex- ' President Hoover, this nation | will be on the way to recovery. Of course, the branches of the armed serv- ices are not in aecord and many members of Congress are partly in opposition. Specifically, the President suggests that one year _ hence, the appropriation be placed under the authority of the Secre- tary who makes such allocations as he sees fit. ; Sok. % Obviously, this places more power in the hands of the Secretary and less in the three branches themselves. Many people think there has been too much inter-service rivalry, al- ready. They feel the three should move along more evenly as one team, instead of competing directly. This dissipates certain’ energies and ac- “‘complishments. One of the most interesting features of the current idea, lies in the fact the proposal for lessen- ing the authority of the military comes straight from the greatest military man of them all: Dwight D. Eisenhower. ae. ae. This fact alone should lend a cer- tain amount of strength to the President’s suggestion. From his current vantage point, he has decided more will be accomplished with the top authority possessing greater dis- . cretionary powers. And basically, this means a.military man is nodding in the direction of a civilian, which shows that President E1sennower is tremendously sincere.
