The report was prepared by Dr.

The business tax burden in

He said the figures were ar-

For example, he said the moni-

Detained Reporter
WASHINGTON — State De-
partment officials said today they
fail to see anything else the U.S.
government can do in the case
of James Buchanan, Miami Herald
reporter, who has been jailed by
the Castro government in Cuba.
Some ‘days ago, the department
said consular authorities were in
touch with the case and following
it closely, That is their routine
responsibility when a U-S. citizen
is arrested in a foreign country.
Officials said the real difficulty
now is not any limitation on the
ability of the State Department to
act, but the unhappy state of re-
lations existing between the United
States and Cuba.

With ‘a Polio Strain, 3

ALBANY... ¥... (AP) — Polio

Contrary to current belief. the
scientists said, polio viruses are)
. not formed in the nucleus or heart
of the human cell.
When the virus invades the cell
and takes over the cell's mechan-
isms to manufacture more virus
particles. it apparently does the,
_manuilacturing in the pool of liq- |
uid matter between the nucleus
and the cell wal!, the scientists
said.

One single buman cell can. pro-
duce something like 100,000 virus
particles in only a few hours, they
said. These particles. are so small
that they occupy only about one
or two per cent of the cell space.
* Polio virus, one of the smallest
viruses known to infect man, are
so tiny that it would take almost
@ million of them end to end to
make an inch.

The technique by which the
polio viruses were photographed
ig important to the American Can-
cer Society because of the pos-

may be caused by viruses.
