The latter is a form of art which has captured the fancy of Pontiac artists in increasing numbers in recent years, under guidance of Mrs. C. K. Naw- man, who is also president, of the Society ® a * Judges of the exh#bit will be Peter Duenas, industrial de- signer, of Birmingham; Robert Garelick of Garelick Galleries, Detroit; and Steven Davis, ar tist, who is at present painting the murals at Great Lakes Bowling Alleys in Detroit The Society is one of the city’s newer cultural societies, having been founded only 12 years ago, Sterling as first president, and J. Hart Gould as-teacher and adviser. The first exhibit was in May 1948 at the Main Library with 19 items. The Society has oon- tinued to hold an exhibit each year, with a constantly increas- ing number of entries from a fast growing membership. One of the requirements ix that prospective members sub- mit three original pieces of work, which are passed upon by a board of member judges. Some of the members are art teachers, some are com- mercial artists and the major- ity are ‘‘Sunday artists,’ many of whom are taking instruction in the various branches of art in which each is individually interested. x * * Three of the members won honors the past year when their paintings were selected for statewide and national show- ing.
