Justice of the Peace, Harry A.
Agge, just Sent two “pranksters”
to the local pokey where they can
spend the next thirty days rumi-~
nating on the ways.of transgres-
~ sors. Then upon the payment of
a fine of a hundred dollars apiece,
they will be released. If they
don’t pay, that will be quite all
right with Justice Agge. The iron
doors will simply elank shut again
and they can spend an additional
thirty days thinking it all over in
a little more detail.
That isn’t a very enviable way to
live the next few weeks; but Justice
Accs has had enough of these “fun
loving” youngsters who make 4a-
mockery of discipline.
I applaud the justice.

Everyone loves jokes and humor.
They are a definite part of life and
a necessary and leavening influence.
However, when “humor” denies the
rights of society in general, it ceases
to be humor. It’s merely unwar-
ranted. .encroachment.. upon the
freedom guaranteed other peoples.

We're far enough behind in our

We're trailing Russia as it is in

‘Outside Antitrust Law’

‘on Joint Subsidiaries
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (AP)—Joint sub-

for antitrust action, a Michigan State
University economic expert said today.
Dr. Daniel R. Fusfeld said his findings,
- never before published or otherwise avail-
able to the public, showed there appar-
ently is more concentrated control in the
industry than was generally believed.

The MSU researcher made his report
in a paper prepared for delivery before

. paper was selected as the best in an open
competition conducted wes the associa-

The control, he said, takes the
form of jointly-owned subsidiaries
which are outside antitrust laws.
Fusfeld said he found 70 jointly-owned ._!
subsidlaries—companies controlled by two
or more parents companies—in the iron
and steel industry. He said these were
about twice as many as were thought
to exist.
“Present antitrust policies poe

‘Department of Justice has opposed
mer, companies in the two. in-
te but has not questioned
the merger that the groups of ‘joint ’
subsidiaries represent.
“If we are committed to a policy of .
competition in the American economy, -
quasi-mergets like joint - subsidiaries
should immediately by suspect, especial-
